How do students socialize at Sora?

Sora is a close-knit online community that provides many ways for students to connect. This includes spirit weeks, clubs, committees, leadership opportunities, and annual events like the student showcase and prom. Families also often organize in-person get-togethers or events for students in their geographic region or while traveling.

How is the transition for new students?

Sora’s onboarding process includes workshops, 1:1 meetings with house advisors, and welcome week icebreakers to help students settle in. Ongoing support includes new student check-ins, parent chats, and events hosted by our Student and Family Experience team.

What is the typical schedule for students?

Schedules vary student-to-student, but they can typically expect to spend about 3 1/2 hours per day in live meetings. These include a daily house meeting, class sessions, and office hours with faculty. Wednesdays are the exception, as this is a working day for students. On Wednesdays, students can catch up on their independent work, join student-led clubs, or take part in activities outside of Sora. To accommodate students across various time zones, we offer staggered start times and learning blocks.

Will my student have an advisor?

At Sora, relationships are key. Each student belongs to a House, guided by a House Advisor who builds connections with families and co-designs the student’s journey. Advisors are the primary contact for students and parents, offering support, monitoring goals, connecting resources, and meeting regularly with parents to ensure success.

How many students are in each class, and what are their grade levels?

Each Sora class has approximately 15-20 students and is led by a faculty member. Class groups are mixed grade by campus: middle school students in grades 6-8 and high school students in grades 9-12.

How much parent involvement is required at Sora?

Sora is student-centered, with accountability built into the program structure through our faculty and other students. We are different from a homeschool program, where parents directly teach the curriculum, and a traditional in-person school, where students are away from home all day. As an accredited school, our faculty members work with students to assign projects and tasks to help them learn and grow.
