Rebels and Rock

Step into one of the most turbulent, rebellious, and transformative decades in American history—where the youth rose up and protested, the music roared, and the war divided a nation.

Introduction

From the jungles of Vietnam to the muddy fields of Woodstock, this course dives deep into the culture, conflict, and consciousness of the 1960s and 70s. We'll explore the Vietnam War and its devastating impact—both abroad and at home—through political history, protest movements, and literature, including Tim O'Brien’s The Things They Carried. Along the way, we’ll vibe with the soundtrack of a generation—”War, What is it Good For” by Edwin Starr and classic rock legends like Hendrix, Joplin, Dylan, and The Doors—and examine how music became a voice of resistance and change.

We’ll also unpack the rise of youth culture, the Summer of Love, civil rights, and the counterculture’s dramatic challenge to the status quo. This isn't just a history class—it's an invitation to feel the beat of a generation that dared to dream differently.
