Launching Discovery Day - Join Us Next Month!
By Sora Schools

On November 8, 2023, Sora Schools hosted its first-ever Discovery Day, and it was a hit!
Discovery Days are monthly live virtual events, designed as an overview to provide prospective students the opportunity to explore and learn more about the school and our program. Prospective students interact with faculty, staff, and current students, participate in class expositions, attend presentations, engage with student life, and experience Sora for themselves.
Engaging Expeditions
Sora Experts hosted engaging demo expeditions during which attendees were able to directly interact with class material and experience what a live Sora class is like in topics such as Food Culture or a Math lesson on Scale Drawing. Prospective students also experienced live checkpoints in a Sora House led by faculty.
Sora Students are Leaders
Current Sora students also met with the prospective students and shared about clubs and other aspects of the Sora community that make it such a dynamic environment. They also shared overviews of projects they worked on in Expeditions.
I presented about an expedition that I took in the first cycle, Forces of Nature. Specifically, I shared an egg basket that I created with the help of physics in order to decrease the chance of the eggs cracking during transport. There were two other amazing presentations. I feel as though this Discovery Day went very well in terms of actually giving prospective students a little ‘sneak peek’ into some expeditions that they could be interested in.

Another Nova Middle School student, Zain Ta., enjoyed meeting with prospective students.
I shared my CYOC (Create Your Own Civilization) presentation that I created in Cycle 1 of last year. I showcased my nation, Kurenai (deep red in Japanese), built using Minecraft. I created laws, a form of government, and a local culture. The presentation demonstrated to prospective students how much work and love goes into your final project here at Sora. This included my process throughout the expedition of creating my final, as well as images and information about my civilization. I also shared examples of group projects done by other students in that class. It was overall a wonderful experience getting to share my project with future and prospective Sora students!

Student ambassadors also shared insights into what it is like be a part of the Sora community, including:
- “Everyone is so connected. We feel like a team.”
- “Be yourself. You won’t be judged for who you are.”

To experience an upcoming Discovery Day, prospective families should first attend an Info Session.
