Insights from the November Parent Roadmap

By Sora Schools

On November 8, Sora Schools held a Parent Roadmap meeting, delving into various facets of our school community, from educational philosophy to Expeditions, to curriculum.

Garrett Smiley, CEO, kicked off the meeting with the first in a series of highlighting the Sora Mindsets, the 7 core beliefs that all Sora students should embrace and embody upon graduation. In this first of the series, Garrett shed light on the concept of a growth mindset. Emphasizing the importance of fostering resilience and adaptability in learners, Smiley's presentation aimed to equip parents with insights into how they can support their children's development. By instilling a growth mindset, parents can encourage a love for learning and empower their children to embrace challenges as opportunities for growth.

Next, Marina Soucy, a Humanities Expert at Sora, shared details about an Expedition, "Pokemon Go: Japanese Mythology in Popular Culture." After reading various Japanese myths, students choose a “kami” or “yokai” (Japanese spirits or monsters) and use their characteristics to create a Pokémon that embodies the beliefs and values of Shintoism or Taoism.

In addition to the enlightening talks, the meeting also provided parents with updates from the Sora Home product team. A quick overview of the updated Sora Home calendar view offered parents a glimpse into the platform's latest improvements.

The session concluded with a brief highlight of the Rosetta Stone curriculum, showcasing its role in language education. Rosetta Stone is an accredited and world-renowned language learning software, which offers an innovative approach to language learning for students of all ages. Through interactive lessons, engaging activities, and real-life practice, Rosetta Stone helps your students develop strong language skills while fostering cultural awareness. Sora students have access to all 25 languages offered by Rosetta Stone.

The Parent Roadmap virtual meeting on November 8 served as a valuable opportunity for parents to gain a deeper understanding of their children's educational journey and all that is offered at Sora. We look forward to seeing parents at upcoming Parent Roadmaps!
